I Didn't Know That!!!

So I have a baby who is now about 5 months old. He is my third, and I am still learning new things. He has a cold( poor little guy!). So sleeping has been a little hard for him because of his stuffy nose, so I have been putting him to sleep in his car seat. I felt really bad doing it but it was the only way we could both get some sleep. I called the doctors office to see if it was OK and the nurse said she actually recommends having a baby sleep in their car seat because it makes it easier for them to breathe. So I guess I am doing the right thing. I just hope when he is feeling better he will sleep in his crib! He also has what I call "guppy eye" (conjunctivitis or pink eye) and for mothers who are nursing they say the best thing to do is put a little bit of breast milk on their eye each time you nurse. I know that sounds a little crazy but it really does work! You can read more about using breast milk for eye infections here or here. I guess breast milk has more than one purpose!Be sure to consult your doctor before using this method. I hope this helps any of you who may have a little one with a cold!

Pretzel Turtles

These are so yummy it may be hard to stop eating! To make you will need Pretzels, Rolos, Pecans, and if you want to make them a little fancy white chocolate.

Place pretzels on a foil covered cookie sheet. Place rolos on top of pretzel and place in the oven at 300 degrees for 4 minutes.

After they come out of the oven place a pecan on top of the rolo and push down.

If you want you can melt some white chocolate and drizzle over top. These are so easy and fun to share. Thanks Mom for sharing them with me!!!

Caramel

This year I decided to make caramel for Christmas. It was my first time and if I do say so myself it was really good! It took a while to cook, about 45 minutes. It was really easy to make and my kid thought it was neat to make our own candy!
2cups white sugar
1 1/2 cups corn syrup
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions
1 Butter a 9x13 inch dish.
2 In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, 1 cup
cream and butter. Bring to a boil, stirring often, then
stir in remaining 1 cup cream. Heat, without stirring, to
242 degrees F (116 degrees C), or until a small amount of
syrup dropped into cold water forms a firm but pliable ball.
Remove from heat, stir in vanilla, and pour into
prepared dish. Refrigerate.
3 When cool, return candies to room temperature then cut
into 1 inch squares and wrap in waxed paper.
